Proposed Renovation & Alteration Of Residential House at Lamu
This project entails the renovation and alteration of an existing residential property located within the historic and culturally rich setting of Lamu Island.
The goal is to preserve the house’s architectural authenticity while enhancing its structural integrity, functionality, and comfort in line with modern living standards.
These interior spaces reflect a minimalist coastal design with handcrafted finishes and traditional techniques. The walls are coated in Lamu plaster (Niru), offering a soft, seamless, and breathable finish with a subtle sheen, ideal for the coastal climate.
The bathroom features a custom cast-in-place concrete vanity and shower partition, combining raw texture with modern form. Fixtures are minimal and wall-mounted, emphasizing function and clean lines.
The bedroom showcases a built-in concrete bed base with integrated bedside platforms, finished in a pigmented lime-wash that complements the natural tones of the space. Exposed hardwood ceiling beams and Swahili-style carved window shutters and lanterns add warmth, ventilation, and cultural authenticity.
